This Sunday’s show will be with the Steve Rudolph Quintet featuring Bob Meashey & Darryl Brenzel.

 

About the artists:

BOB MEASHEY – trumpet - Bob has been performing in Philadelphia and central Pennsylvania since he was seventeen.  A graduate of Lebanon Valley College, Bob has been an active performer and teacher since his graduation, showcasing his unique approach to improvisation for numerous area ensembles.  Bob has played with Stanley Clarke, Eddie Daniels, Urbie Green, Walt Levinsky, Bob Mintzer, Joe Morello, Marvin Stamm, and Sir Roland Hanna.  He continues to perform and record with several area jazz groups including renowned Philadelphia guitarist Steve Giordano, Peter Paulsen’s Quintet, 53 Stations, Andy Roberts’ Four Piece Quartet, and celebrated pianist and composer Ron Thomas. Bob has taught master classes at Philadelphia’s University of the Arts and Temple University.  His show credits include the national touring companies of “Annie” and “Grand Hotel”, and performances in the 1997, 1999, and 2001 Mellon Jazz Festivals in Philadelphia. 

DARRYL BRENZEL – Sax – Darryl is a highly experienced saxophonist and woodwind doubler as well as a composer and arranger. He has performed at some of the world's great jazz festivals, (Newport, Montreaux, Northsea, Nice) w/ some of the world's great orchestras (Boston Pops, The National Symphony, Pittsburgh Pops, Detroit Symphony) and big names in rock (Chris Isaak, Beach Boys, The Temptations, Four Tops, The Drifters, Jerry Butler) and big bands (Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, US Army Jazz Ambassadors), to name a few. Darry is also a published composer/arranger w/ more than 150 works for big band to his credit.

LARRY MARSHALL – Drums  Larry started playing drums at the age of five. In 1983, he went on to study at West Chester University and started his recording and touring career as well. After a sold out tour to Asia, Larry relocated to Japan, where he made Osaka home base for siX years. While in Japan, the high end drum company, Sakae(Sah-kah-ee), approached and signed him as a Sakae Drum Artist. He spent six years as the Jazz Drum instructor at the Azul Jazz Academy; and during that time, Kansai Music Conference awarded Larry with the Jazz Musician of the year award (2012). Now back in the U.S., Larry continues to enjoy teaching as adjunct faculty member at Lebanon Valley College, The High Street Music Co. in Pottstown, Pa., Director of two Percussion Ensembles at High Street Co.. Adjunct Faculty at The Waldorf School ( Kimberton, Pa.), Small Jazz Ensemble Director at Waldorf School. Adjunct Faculty at The Hill School,( Pottstown, Pa.), Percussion Ensemble Director at The Hill School. Larry still tours and has formed the Larry Marshall Quartet as well as being a sideman for a wide variety of artists. He has toured with artists such as, Othello Molineaux, Randy Brecker, Kevin Mahogany and many others. In addition, he also continues to be a sought-after recording artist, conduct clinics and master classes in the U.S. and abroad.

STEVE MEASHEY – Bass - Steve has been an active professional musician since high school, coming from a family of wonderful musicians – his brother Bob is a trumpet player and his sister Kelly sings and plays flute.  He has worked with the finest musicians in the area and has been an avid recording artist – he is featured on drummer Joe Hunt’s Trio CD on Dreambox Media and with the trio of Kirk Reese and Jeff Stabley on “Impressions”.  Steve is currently bassist for the Harrisburg Jazz Collective (formerly the River City Big Band) and performs in many area venues.

 STEVE RUDOLPH – Piano - Steve moved to Harrisburg in 1978 after a tour with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.  He was a founder of the Central PA Friends of Jazz in 1980, one of the country’s most successful jazz organizations to this day.  He served as pianist six nights a week at the Hilton Harrisburg’s “Bar” for 22 years featuring many great area and national artists weekly.  He has many recordings to his credit and his compositions and arrangements have been performed by the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra.  Visit www.steverudolph.com for more information.
