Bruce Swaim & the Steve Rudolph Trio will join us for this Wednesday Jazz Series!

About the artists:

BRUCE SWAIM – Saxophone

Bruce attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as a performance major in saxophone.  Moving from North Carolina to Washington, D.C., Bruce was given the opportunity to work professionally with many notables including Carl Allen, Danny Gatton, Rosemary Clooney, Dick Morgan, Martha Reeves, The Spinners, Michael Feinstein, Houston Person, The Four Tops and The Temptations. 

He is an active studio musician with many independent pop, jazz and blues recording projects along with numerous film, T.V. soundtracks and jingles.  Bruce is an accomplished musical composer in addition to scoring horn charts for studio and live performances for other musicians. He has received two Wammy Awards for Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year from the Washington Area Music Association.

 

DOMINIC SMITH – Drums

Dominic attended Towson State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Jazz Performance.  He has studied privately in New York City with Kenny Washington, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Ralph Peterson, Frank Malabe, Duduka Da Fonseca, Mike Clark, and Kim Plainfield.  Dominic’s local musical guru was the legendary Washington, D.C. drummer, Mike Smith.  Dominic currently resides in the Baltimore, Maryland area.

He has played with many nationally known jazz musicians including Charlie Byrd, Keter Betts, Eric Alexander, Harold Mabern, Phil woods, Buster Williams, James Williams, Scott Hamilton, Kenny Rankin, Buck Hill, and Ray Bryant.  

 

STEVE MEASHEY – Bass

Steve has been an active professional musician since high school, coming from a family of wonderful musicians – his brother Bob is a trumpet player and his sister Kelly sings and plays flute.  He has worked with the finest musicians in the area and has been an avid recording artist – he is featured on drummer Joe Hunt’s Trio CD on Dreambox Media and with the trio of Kirk Reese and Jeff Stabley on “Impressions”.  Steve is currently bassist for the Harrisburg Jazz Collective (formerly the River City Big Band) and performs in many area venues.

 

STEVE RUDOLPH – Piano

Steve moved to Harrisburg in 1978 after a tour with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.  He was a founder of the Central PA Friends of Jazz in 1980, one of the country’s most successful jazz organizations to this day.  He served as pianist six nights a week at the Hilton Harrisburg’s “Bar” for 22 years featuring many great area and national artists weekly.  He has many recordings to his credit and his compositions and arrangements have been performed by the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra.  Visit www.steverudolph.com for more information.
