About vocalist Dred “Perky” Scott

Vocalist Dred “Perky” Scott comes from a distinguished Harrisburg family. He began his professional music career at age eleven as “Little Perky Wonder" and has played with local groups the El Dantes and the Emperors, a Harrisburg group who had the hit record, “Karate”.  As an instrumentalist, he played bass for Isaac Hayes in the early 70’s.  He is widely known and acclaimed as one of the finest entertainers ever to come out of Central PA. He has performed with area jazz artists Sam Banks, Cedric Lawson, Steve Rudolph, Ronnie Waters, and Jimmy Wood.  While attending law school in Pittsburgh he gigged with Dr. Nathan Davis and the University of Pittsburgh Jazz Band and jazz greats Marcus Belgrade, Geri Allen, Kenny Barron,  Max Roach, Roger Humphries, and Dwayne Dolphin.  A call to the ministry moved him to a new level of expression and Perky continues to use the gifts God has given him in spreading His Word to the communities he serves.  He embarked on a fully funded “Jazz in the Sanctuary” yearlong series in various churches in Baltimore MD beginning in mid-April 2001 and continuing today.  In 2004 Dred released an acclaimed CD of Jazz standards “Live At The Whitaker Center…NINE”, with Steve Rudolph, Roger Humphries and Dwayne Dolphin.   As M.C. and performer, he has worked for over twenty-five years as concert host at the Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz Festival.
