About the artists:  

Paul Bratcher
Paul Bratcher, a native of Harrisburg Pennsylvania began playing piano at age 11.  He began his study of jazz at Bishop McDevitt High School where he played in the Jazz Band under the direction of David Knott.  After high school Paul continued his education at Messiah College where he pursued a Bachelors of Science in Music Education.  While attending Messiah he had the pleasure of playing with and learning from such jazz masters as, Tim Warfield, Kirk Reese, Cyrus Chestnut and Bruce Barth. After Paul graduated from Messiah he continued his education at Michigan State University studying under world-renowned bassist Rodney Whitaker.  As a teacher Paul worked with the jazz program at MSU Community Music School in Detroit as well a clinician for a variety of high schools in the mid Michigan area.  As a player Paul has shared the stage with Rodney Whitaker, Diego Rivera, Etienne Charles, Michael Dease, and Wes “ Warm Daddy” Anderson.  After graduating with a M.M. in Jazz Studies Paul has been busy playing and teaching in the D.C. area.   He has toured South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Canada, Uruguay, Egypt, Indonesia and more.  Currently Paul is Associate Chair of Piano at the Levine School of Music in Washington D.C. and Director of Jazz Studies at Georgetown University.  Paul is formerly President of the Central PA Friends of Jazz Board.

 

Mark Hunsberger
A native of Somerset, Pennsylvania, Mark began playing percussion at age 11. He found a passion for music through his first percussion instructor and IUP professor, Ronald Horner. Mark followed his passion to Messiah College where he earned a B.A. in Classical Percussion Performance as well as his certification in Music Education. During his time at Messiah, Mark discovered and cultivated a love for jazz, and his studies with Kirk Reese, Tim Warfield, Lenny Rogers, and Dan Monaghan provided him a strong foundation in the jazz tradition. In 2014, Mark earned his M.M. in Jazz studies from Michigan State University where he had the opportunity to study and perform with jazz masters Randy Gilespie, Rodney Whitaker, Diego Rivera, and Etienne Charles. Mark maintains an active performance schedule as well as a private studio in which he teaches both classical and jazz lessons. He serves as the Director of Education for the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra and is on faculty at Central Penn College and Messiah College.

 

Manny Arciniega
Manny received his undergraduate degree in Music Education and Theory composition from Texas Christian University and a Master of Arts degree in Timpani and Percussion Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Manny has had the opportunity to work with world renowned performers and conductors, including: Sir Colin Davis, Stephen Hough, Colin Currie, Keiko Abe, and has performed in venues all over the world. He has appeared with the London Sinfonietta, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of India, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Dame Evelyn Glennie.  Skilled in many areas of percussion, Manny’s performance opportunities vary from playing tabla in the group Tablature, with Kuljit Bhamra MBE, to playing buckets on the Netflix Original TV Series House of Card (SE2Ep1). Manny has taught publicly and privately in the US and abroad and is currently on Percussion Faculty at Levine Music in Washington DC. He also works regularly with the Education Programs at the Kreeger Museum in Washington DC

The floor offers an up-close view from the floor of the Listening Room, and the upstairs mezzanine offers a spot overlooking the floor.
