This Wednesday’s show is the Steve Rudolph Trio featuring Marko Marcinko (drums) and Dwayne Dolphin (bass).

Steve Rudolph

Steve has had an inspiring career in his 50+ years of professional music making. Jazz improv magazine states, “Rudolph is a savvy, swinging, glimmering heavyweight...Simply outstanding.” he was awarded two jazz composition fellowships from the PA Council of the Arts. With fourteen acclaimed cds as a leader, he has served as producer, arranger and performer on many recordings including sessions with Johnny Coles, Bill Goodwin, Ali Ryerson, Matt Wilson, Drew Gress, Cal Collins, Jonathan Raggonese, Phil Haynes, Roger Humphries, Dwayne Dolphin, JD Walter and Vinny Valentino. His vast experience encompasses concert performances with many jazz masters including Louie Bellson, Clark Terry, Terry Gibbs, Al Grey, and the Mills brothers. Steve has toured throughout the U.S., India, Europe, Canada, Russia and the Caribbean. At home he is the leader of many ensembles including the Harrisburg Jazz Collective (formerly the river city big band). Currently a Yamaha keyboard artist, he is in demand as a clinician and performer. Steve hired by Buddy Morrow to perform with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra in 1977. Since moving to Harrisburg, he has been largely responsible for the growth and development of the thriving jazz scene in Central PA. His devotion to the art of jazz inspired him to found the Central PA Friends of Jazz, now in its 42nd year. Steve was the recipient of the 2002 Harrisburg Arts award for dedication to the arts and community service and has received two composition fellowships from the PA Council of the Arts . Marko Marcinko

Born in Archbald, Pennsylvania, Marcinko studied technique with drumming master Joe Morello and got his degree from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.  Marcinko toured and recorded with jazz legend Maynard Ferguson in the mid-’90s and with NEA Jazz Master Dave Liebman as a member of the Dave Liebman Group 2000-2014. He currently works with the Grammy-nominated Dave Liebman Big Band and The Marko Marcinko Latin Jazz Quintet.  He is founder and artistic director of the PA Jazz Alliance and the Scranton Jazz Festival, and has served as a consultant, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the United States, Canada, South America, eastern/western Europe, and Japan.  Over the past 25 years, he has performed with Joe Henderson, Phil Woods, Jimmy Heath, Clark Terry, Jon Faddis, Slide Hampton, Benny Golson, Bob Dorough, Michael Brecker,  John Pizzarelli, & Joe Lovano; and with popular musicians and entertainers including: John Legend, Jon Secada, Joan Rivers, Jay Leno, Connie Francis, Joe Piscopo, Clay Aiken, Bob Newhart, and Nicol Williamson.  As Director of Jazz Studies at Penn State University, Professor Marcinko conducts Centre Dimensions, the premier twenty-piece jazz ensemble at Penn State University. Professor Marcinko also oversees the Jazz Combo program that features numerous small jazz and contemporary music ensembles during the school year.  Marko Marcinko, drumset artist, endorses Yamaha Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Vic Firth Sticks, and Aquarian Drum Heads.

Dwayne Dolphin

A native of Pittsburgh PA, bassist Dwayne Dolphin began studying music at age 11 and after graduating high school went on the road with Wynton Marsalis’ Quintet.  His prolific career includes performances, tours and recordings with Wynton, Nancy Wilson, Stanley Turrentine, Gerri Allen, John Hicks, and Fred Wesley & the James Brown Horns.
