Songs & Stories with Meaghan Farrell and Rebecca Marie Miller

  • 1219 Research Boulevard Hummelstown, PA, 17036 (map)

Tickets are available now for Songs & Stories with Meaghan Farrell and Rebecca Marie Miller on 12/23! Special guest Hollan!

Friends since freshman year of high school, Meaghan & Rebecca initially saw themselves as each other’s competition for choir solos. Thankfully, their respective soprano and alto voices made them better duet partners than bitter enemies and thus began a lifelong friendship. This special homecoming show will center on the two friends’ shared love of songwriting and will offer the audience an intimate look into the stories behind the music. This is a seated show, tickets in advance are recommended.

Rebecca Marie Miller is a force originally borne from Pennsylvania’s gentle rolling farmlands. RMM’s career began in her hometown of Harrisburg and dates back to 1993 at the tender age of 13; her work then and since is rooted in lilting melodies woven with lyrics that are dipped in melancholy and then dusted with hope. For 10 formative years, RMM fronted and wrote songs with Harrisburg’s Brave the Day, a band that she co-founded. Upon the dissolution of Brave the Day, she packed up shop and headed west to Los Angeles, spending nearly two years “making lots of mistakes and losing lots of money.”

In early 2010, RMM sold most of her belongings and began a solitary and slow path home. Making her way north and then east, she would reconnect with Laura Burhenn, friend and founder of music collective, The Mynabirds. Soon after, Burhenn would invite RMM to tour internationally with The Mynabirds. Of that experience, she says, “So many great things have happened since then, all because I took a long drive.”

Since relocating to Portland, Oregon, RMM continues to carve a path with her voice. The PNW caught her with open arms and she quickly found herself opening for acts like Foster the People and Kaki King. She formed Lenore. in 2016 with co-songwriter Joy Pearson. The group garnered immediate success, sharing stages with The Decembrists, Laura Gibson, and Robin Pecknold, as well as performing at the iconic Newport Folk Festival in 2019.

RMM works as a session vocalist, having contributed her voice to albums from beloved Portland soul legend, Ural Thomas and The Pain and Josiah Johnson of Head and the Heart fame. You can find her on the road regularly with Josiah Johnson.

RMM’s music is devoted to contrasting the ruminating familiarity of home against the glittering promise of the open road. With a guitar as dark and weathered as her boots, Miller’s songs trace the spine of America, connecting the wooden stage to her rolling tires; celebrating the months that she lived out of her car in equal accord with the afternoon that she finally pulled back into her driveway.

As an emerging singer-songwriter in New York City and Nashville, Meaghan Farrell didn’t know her own power. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say that she simply didn’t know how to harness it. She had always loved to sing, turning heads with her strong voice at a young age in her hometown of Harrisburg, PA. Meaghan knew early that she was meant to write songs, perform, and connect with people. For several years she did just that – writing and producing a number of independent recordings, gathering experience and confidence as she toured around the country in support of her music. Like so many new artists, Meaghan was proud of her early songs, but the material wasn’t completely “her”, she hadn’t yet found her voice. That focus, that energy has newly been captured on her upcoming release entitled Conversations with Myself.

Driving around the country as a touring singer-songwriter can be a lonely proposition, with lots of time to think behind the wheel, to get to know one’s self. It was on this journey of self-discovery that Meaghan realized that her artist voice was actually the voice inside her own head. “Conversations with Myself came out of an extraordinary time in my life,” Meaghan says. “I was no longer willing to accept feeling certain kinds of familiar pain anymore. It all started with checking in with myself every single day, over a cup of coffee in the morning. It was through this sort of meditation that I began the journey of healing a very broken heart. I am still on that journey. I am still talking to myself, trying to more deeply understand who I am… and I am learning how truly grateful I am for all that I have and all I can give.”

After two years of writing and touring, Meaghan recently teamed up with production duo Nate and Dan Monea at their Little C Studios in Canton, Ohio. The Moneas helped her express the full range of her emotions: from heartbreak to healing, from injustice to empowerment, from anxiety to confidence, Meaghan shares it all. Her philosophy is simple - the best version of yourself has always been there, it is often too noisy to hear that voice. The trick is to quiet the world, quiet yourself until you can truly hear it. The clarity. The calm. The love.

With her powerful new music, Meaghan Farrell aspires to be heard for many years to come. Meaghan has built an online community of like-minded spirits that has playfully dubbed themselves The MF’ers Club. This group connects in the spirit of openness to listen and hear one another with a shared goal of meaningful change. One conversation at a time. One song at a time. Meaghan says, "Look into the deepest, darkest parts of yourself. Get uncomfortable. Accept it all with love, compassion and gratitude for where you've been. I believe from that place, your dreams start to become your reality."

HOLLAN is the moniker of 24 year old singer/songwriter, Anna Manotti. Manotti was born and raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and grew up with only one dream; to be a musician. As a child, she spent her money buying anything from Alicia Keys to John Denver albums and quickly came to realize that, for her, a well written song is the most important thing. Through years of developing her taste and style, she has landed in the folk scene with lyrics grounding the foundation of every piece. After years of developing her live performances, Manotti released her debut EP, “Ready as the Day,” in October 2019. She has managed to grow her momentum in 2020 as well, releasing two singles; “Wild Man” in the spring and “I’ve Been Alone” in the fall, with each of her releases topping the previous. Throughout her years of playing shows she has performed on both coasts of the U.S., live music venues, weddings, festivals, house shows and city streets alike and has gotten the chance to open for artists such as Tiny Desk features, Lowland Hum, Florist, Buck Meek (of Big Thief) and Twain. Now with a pandemic under her belt, Hollan is preparing to record her first full-length album, anticipating it’s debut in late 2021.
