Garrett Shultz has embodied the expression “having a lot of life in your years.” Growing up in Central PA, music was not something to pursue full time, but it was something he always connected with. Garrett said, “there seemed to be a song for every moment in life, whether you were going through a hard time, a great time, falling in love, or needed some motivation.”

He worked hard to pursue a career in ice hockey, where his pursuit fell short due to injuries. Shortly after his rehabilitation, he joined the military and became a part of the 28th Infantry Division in the PA Army National Guard. His mentors always encouraged Garrett to “Do something that scares you,” which truly made his life interesting. In his early 20’s he opened a fitness training facility that focused on youth athletes, while hunting down his bachelors of science degree in Biochemistry.

At the time, music was just a three-chord hobby that politely traveled along with all these endeavors—until he saw an ad for a local open mic, which Garrett immediately said, “I’ll never do that.” Before those words finished leaving his mouth he remembered “Do something that scares you” and immediately knew that he had to do it. “I probably sang those 3 songs quicker than I could say the ABCs, but I did it… nerve-racking as hell, but I did what I set out to do,” Garrett said, reminiscing on the moment his music career officially made an appearance. From there, it was the challenge of writing a song and performing it.

The Garrett Shultz we know today has not stopped pursuing things that scare him.

Always pushing boundaries in songwriting and crafting new ways to make live performances better, Garrett believes it has undoubtedly shown through his insatiable work ethic and innovation in 2020. While inside bars and venues were shut down, touring came to a stop, except for Garrett Shultz and his band. Fabricating a mobile stage from a box trailer, they were able to take their show on the road.
